Celebrating 31 years of “Harmony From the Roots Up”—and continuing its focus on progressive ideals, community activism, and uplifting music—the producers of the Harmony Festival (http://www.harmonyfestival.com) are very pleased to announce confirmed musicians and speakers.
The Harmony Festival is the West Coast’s premier music and progressive lifestyle event—described as a hybrid between Burning Man and Bioneers—which will once again be held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California, on June 12, 13, and 14.
Headline performers include reggae hip-hop social activist Michael Franti & Spearhead, neo-soul singer-songwriter India.Arie and ever popular progressive indie rock band CAKE, reggae/funk/hip hop sensation Matisyahu, funk-a-teers ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) performing from their new album, West Africa’s Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars, and jamband chameleon Steve Kimock leading his new band Crazy Engine with Melvin Seals.
The Eco-cup Skate Expo stage will feature 10 of the top pro skaters in the world including Bob Burnquist, Andy MacDonald, Buster Halterman and music legends Dead Kennedy's, Bad Brains and up and coming action sports friendly bands Pepper, Rebelution, Egypt Central, Hightower and Zepparella.
In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the legendary Mystic Beat Lounge - Techno-Tribal Dance, 2009 audiences will be transported over two evenings to the new edge of sound, light, technology and talent. Friday, June 12th includes Balkan Beat Box, Medicine Drum and Somalia-born hip hop artist K’naan. Saturday night showcases multi-genre trance DJ/Producer Shpongle, U.K. chillout pioneers The Orb, the U.K. dub-reggae beats of DJ Gaudi, and a very special guest appearance by Matisyahu. Also included are Bay Area hip-hop dubstep artist Abai plus the soulful, liquid grooves of British Columbia’s Wassabi Collective. Visual feasts of dazzling fire performances will be served up each night by Luminesque and innovative jugglers & aerialists NANDA.
In addition to the main stage and After Dark lineups, there will also be an array of dynamic jazz and jam band performances in the Harmony Hall. Friday night features ALO and special guest Steve Kimock, while both nights feature a very special performance by Legba's Light "The Spirit Of Miles Davis" featuring jazz greats Airto Moreira, Mike Clark, Mike Stern, Eddie Henderson, Charnette Moffett & rapper Killah Priest and DJ Kentyah Fraser, as well as exotic escapades on the Goddess Temple Stage and the Ambiotica Chill Lounge.
Confirmed headline speakers includes Eco-Activist Julia Butterfly HIll, visionary Caroline Casey, author and History Channel’s 2012 expert Daniel Pinchbeck, founders of the Agape spiritual community Rev. Michael Beckwith and Rickie Byars Beckwith, eco-activist and neo-Pagan author Starhawk, spiritual mystic and author Gahl Sasson, and organic and living food nutrition expert David Wolfe.
Harmony Festival is a family friendly event, with a kids zone and on site camping.
